About

CANDLELIGHT ART

Children’s books are a child’s first encounter with literacy, story-telling, and with fine art. Especially in the stage before a child can read, the illustrations in a child’s book serve to stimulate his imagination and taste for beauty. Many modern children’s books take short cuts. They present children with shoddily drawn cartoons that pay no heed to anatomy, realism, perspective or the nuance of colour. Candlelight Art aims to bring back beauty and care to children’s books again, not merely in the artwork, but in the storytelling as well. We take our inspiration from greater writers like Enid Blyton and Michael Morpurgo and great illustrators like Edmund Dulac and Beatrix Potter.

We publish beautiful children’s books with high quality, hand-drawn illustrations that will provide a love of reading and art for years to come. Our stories promote the virtues of truth, justice, kindness and true love. Our books are written in living prose that will nourish the development of the kind of rich literacy that prepares a child to speak and write well. While the world labours under the harsh blue glow of screens and computers, our work aims at making books that recalibrate adult and child alike to the humanity of candlelight.

Who are we? We are the parents of little children who wish to bring the kind of books we would love for our children, to the world.
